The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will continue to introduce the public to famous performers. On 10 February there will be a grand opening of the Year of Sergei Prokofiev in the Primorsky Region. The one hundred and twenty-fifth anniversary of the great Russian composer’s birth will be widely celebrated not just in Russia but throughout the world.
Prokofiev’s works will be presented by prize-winners of the XIV and XV International Tchaikovsky сompetition Dmitry Masleev (1st prize at the XV Competition), Alexei Chernov (5th prize at the XIV Competition) and Ilya Rashkovsky (Special Prize at the XV Competition), as well as participants of the Mariinsky Piano Festival Pavel Raikerus and Philipp Kopachevsky. The Symphony Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will be conducted by Pavel Smelkov.
Dmitry Masleyev, who has appeared at that theatre to great acclaim on 7 February as part of the Rachmaninoff Festival, will perform Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto. Philipp Kopachevsky will perform four of the Ten Pieces for piano from the ballet Romeo and Juliet, Ilya Rashkovskiy will perform Piano Sonata No 3, Alexei Chernov will perform Visions fugitives and Pavel Raikerus will perform Piano Sonata No 7.
