Tchaikovsky Festival will be held at the Philharmonic Hall of the Gasteig (Munich)
From 8 to 11 February 2019, at the Philharmonic Hall of the Gasteig will be held the Tchaikovsky Festival led by Valery Gergiev, co-chair of the Organizing Committee of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition.
The Mariinsky Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic and renowned soloists Nobuyuki Tsujii and Chair of Jury (piano) of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition Denis Matsuev (piano), Kristóf Baráti (violin), Gautier Capuçon (cello) will perform Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s six symphonies and instrumental concerts within the framework of the musical forum.
On 8 February 2019, the festival begins with concerts by Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra. The program of the first evening will include: Symphony No. 1 (Winter Daydreams), Symphony No. 4 and the Piano Concerto No. 1 by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, with Nobuyuki Tsujii as the soloist. On the next day, the Piano Concerto No. 3, Symphony No. 6 (Pathétique Symphony) and The Variations on a Rococo Theme will be performed. Denis Matsuev and Gauthier Capuçon will be performing the solos.
On 10 February 2019, Valery Gergiev will take the conductor’s stand of two orchestras: in the morning he will conduct the Munich Philharmonic, in the afternoon, the Mariinsky Orchestra. The concert program of the Munich Philharmonic will include Symphonies No. 2 and No. 5 and the Piano Concerto No. 2, in which Denis Matsuev will be the soloist (11:00). Then Kristóf Baráti will perform the Violin Concerto accompanied by the Mariinsky Orchestra. The program will also include Symphony No. 3 (15:30).
On 11 February 2019, the Munich Philharmonic conducted by Valery Gergiev will close the festival. Symphonies No. 2 and No. 5, the Piano Concerto No. 2 (Denis Matsuev as the soloist) will be performed again.
