The Names of the Prizewinners at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition in the Piano Category have been Announced
By decision of the jury members of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition in the Piano category, the prizewinners are:
First Prize and Gold Medal: Alexandre Kantorow (France)
Second Prize and Silver Medal: Dmitriy Shishkin (Russia) and Mao Fujita (Japan)
Third Prize and Bronze Medal: Alexey Melnikov (Russia), Kenneth Broberg (USA), Konstantin Yemelyanov (Russia)
Fourth Prize and Diploma: Tianxu An (China)
Fifth Prize is not awarded
Sixth Prize is not awarded
Special Prize for courage and restraint – Tianxu An (China)
25 contestants have attended the auditions in the Piano category, taking place from June 18 to 27, 2019 in the Great Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. The jury consisted of: Denis Matsuev (Jury Chair), Michel Béroff, Pavel Gililov, Barry Douglas, Freddy Kempf, Li Ming Qiang, Vladimir Ovchinnikov, Piotr Paleczny, Boris Petrushansky, Menahem Pressler, Nelson Freire.
The ceremony of awarding Prizes to the winners of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition in all the categories will take place on June 28, 2019 at 13:00 at the Pashkov House in Moscow. The winner of the Grand Prix of the Competition will be announced on June 29, 2019 during the gala concert of the laureates, which will be held at the New Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre (Mariinsky II) in St. Petersburg.
