From July 3 to 5, 2019, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra will hold a series of concerts in Mikkeli, Finland, at the XXVIII Gergiev Festival. Valery Gergiev is the Artistic director of the festival. Together with the Mariinsky Orchestra, laureates of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition will take part in the tour. The Competition was held from June 17 to 29, 2019 in Moscow and St. Petersburg. For young musicians this will be the first tour in the new winner status.

On July 3, 2019, accompanied by the Mariinsky Orchestra, Alexandre Kantorow (piano), the winner of the Grand Prix, First Prize and Gold Medal at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition, will perform in the Mikaeli Hall, Mikkeli. He will be soloing in the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Ferencz Liszt. The program will also include: the prelude to Act 1 of LohengrinRomantic opera composed and written by Richard Wagner and the Symphony No. 7 by Anton Bruckner. The concert will be broadcast live by the Finland’s Yle Public BroadcastingCompany.

On July 4, 2019,  accompanied  by  the  Mariinsky  Orchestra, the First Prize winner at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition in the Violin category Sergey Dogadin and the Finnish cellist, Sixth Prize winner at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition Senja Elina Rummukainen, will perform. The program will include Symphony No. 2 by Jean Sibelius and compositions by Pyotr Tchaikovsky: Valse-Schersofor violin and orchestra and The Meditation (soloist SergeyDogadin) and Variations on a Rococo Theme for cello and orchestra (soloist Senja Elina Rummukainen).

The festival will be completed on July 5, 2019 with a big gala concert of the laureates of the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition in the Voice category and the Mariinsky Orchestra. The gala concert will be held  in  the  Mikkeli Cathedral  that can accommodate up to 1200 spectators. Valery Gergiev will take the conductor stand.
